Challenge
The large number of ODI integrations and supporting architectural components impacted by the upgrade and the development and implementation of processes utilizing the replacement Planning Outline Load Utility that needed to be coded and tested.
Although the DRM/DRG updates were well-defined, their implementation required extensive testing, rigorous data validation, and significant coordination across teams, especially for HFM loads.
Background
Client performed a very large scale upgrade including ODI to a version incompatible with the ODI EPM Planning Adapter used to load and update master data in EPM Planning applications. This incompatibility necessitated modifying 500+ ODI integrations to stage planning metadata updates in a temporary relational repository for subsequent use by the Planning Outline Load Utility to perform the updates. iArch implemented the Outline Load Utility to replace the elimination of the ODI Planning Adapter and use the new relational repository. This change also impacted DRM/DRG structures and exports for Planning and HFM applications requiring modifications.
Outcomes
The client was able to move from the existing on-premise solution to an OCI hosted environment in approximately two weeks. As part of that process, the environment was configured with advanced alerting for outages and issues, and automated processes were enabled to shut down the environment nightly to save on costs. They were also on-boarded into iArch Solutions Managed Services offering, allowing the client to relieve themselves of the burden for managing and troubleshooting OCI and Sesame issues.
Implementation Highlights
Identify ODI Integrations and workflows impacted by the deprecation of the ODI Planning Adapter.
Modify the impacted ODI components replacing the code utilizing the Planning Adapter with code to update a new temporary repository for Planning master data.
Implement the Planning Outline Load Utility in place of the ODI portion that executes the Planning outline updates from the temporary repository.
Modify ODI workflows to integrate with the Planning Outline Load Utility in place of the deprecated Planning Adapter.
Modify DRM/DRG structures and exports for data and metadata loads accordingly.
